Registration to view only

    I am setting up a church directory that should require login to view (so not available to general public). I gather that plugins like Connections Business Directory require a WordPress registration to grant access to private listings. I would like to avoid requiring every church member having to set up their own accounts and remember login details. Is there any reason to advise against setting up a catch-all account like ‘churchmember’, ‘member@churchname.org’, ‘easypassword’ that all members can use to view only. Login information would be printed only and could be changed periodically.

    Are you setting this up on a page or post? If so, you can simply password protect that page or post and then distribute the passwords to parishoners. No need for them to set up an account at all.

    As @kjodle recommends. Basically the only way to have a “shared” private page. That how we use to do it for our church. We’d just change it monthly and keep the bulletin updated with the password. Not the most secure but it’s not really secure any ways since the password is being shared.

    One thing we did and we felt this was important. We requested that to be listed in the online directory, the member had to give their expressed written permission which was then kept on file.
