    I’ve read ‘If you want exact phrase matching, you need to use quotes.’

    When I do that,I still get results which contain any of the entered terms and the ‘results for…’ text replaces ” with %22.

    I have default operator set to ‘and’.

    Have I misconfigured, or do I need to add extra code?

    That’s normal, %22 is a quotation mark, it’s just a question of your theme doing the URL encoding wrong somehow.

    But if the results won’t change when quotes are added, first thing I’d check is to see if the search is powered by Relevanssi in the first place. Is it?

    @msaari… thanks.

    The encoding issue also happens with the default TwentySeventeen theme.

    And yes, Relevanssi is handling the search.

    Can I see your site? I have a Twenty Seventeen site, which has no issues with this, so hard to say what’s wrong, but it’s something specific to your site. Encodings may be a server side issue, too.

    @msaari… thanks.

    I’ve just checked with Twenty Seventeen on a site I setup for a friend. Seems to work fine there – exact match and encoded quotes. When I switch that site to my theme it drops the quotes.

    This is clearly something to do with my server/theme – and as I’m updating the theme and switching hosts, rather than trouble you further now I’ll revisit this later when I’m on a different server and have checked my theme. 😉
