Image settings attachment large changed
-
Hello,
I like the plugin, but when I activate and use the plugin something strange is happening.
Normally when I insert an image I can change the size in the attachment size menu. It is small, medium and large and real size.
Some way some how the LARGE size is changed in 525×525 and not the normal values as I had before.
I really want to have the default settings back of the attachment size .. because now al my images get cropped in square what I do not want.
I tried everything .. but I cannot find a way to get my default settings back. Only by completely remove the plugin and all content in database… but then I lose all my settings…. and all bulk editing I did to give the images a category.
I really hope you can help me…
Regards Jap

Thanks for your good words and for your report. I regret the trouble you are having with the attachment size. It looks like you are using the Media Manager Modal (popup) Window (MMMW) from the “Add Media…” button; is that right?
You wrote “Some way some how the LARGE size is changed in 525×525 and not the normal values as I had before.” I have not been able to reproduce this issue and I do not know of any code in the MLA plugin that would change the Intermediate Size settings. Perhaps your theme or another plugin is altering the values.
MLA does have some code that affects the default settings in the “ATTACHMENT DISPLAY SETTINGS” portion of the “ATTACHMENT DETAILS” pane, and perhaps something has gone wrong with this logic. You can disable this logic, which may give you a solution without disabling the entire MLA plugin and losing its other benefits.
Navigate to the Settings/Media Library Assistant General tab and scroll down to the “Attachment Display Settings” section. Uncheck the “Media Manager Apply Display Settings ” box to disable the logic, then got to the bottom of the screen and click “Save Changes” to record the new setting. Go back to a post/page edit screen and see if the “ATTACHMENT DISPLAY SETTINGS” are working the way you want.
You can also disable ALL of the MLA changes to the Modal Window on the General tab. Look for the “Media Manager/Media Grid Enhancements” section and uncheck one or both of the first two “Enable…” checkboxes to remove the features.
I hope that gives you a solution. If you still have a problem after disabling the MLA features you must look elsewhere for a cause. For example, you can go to the Settings/Media admin screen and verify the dimensions that WordPress is using for the Thumbnail, Medium and Large intermediate sizes.
I will leave this topic unresolved until I hear back from you.
Hello,
Thank you for the quick reaction.
I did what you told me but with no luck. The size settings keep different.
I tried to install the plugin on another site (test site) with same plugins and the same happend. The large attachment size of the image is changing in 525 x 525 and the medium is changing in 300 x 300. It does not matter what size of image I upload.. it keeps showing me the sizes 525×525 or 300 x 300. In the media settings (regular) nothing is changed.
When I checked the both delete settings below in the general tab and after it I deleted the whole plugin (library assistant) the settings on the testsite where normal again.
With normal I mean that the medium and large image size changing with the sizes of the image i have uploaded.
Yes I use the media tab above the blog post screen.
This is a real bummer because I only needed your plugin to bulk edit images to send them to a media categorie of the Grid fx plugin.
It is strange behaviour, I dont know how to solve this and get the normal sizes back. I have a lot of plugins and was planning to go live with the website in 2 days… after a lot of work.
I am not sure when I delete the plugin with both delete settings at the end of the general tab checked if it will reverse all bulk edits I made. I have uploaded hundreds of pictures and with your plugin I dit attach them to specific categories. Will I lose my work when I totally delete the plugin?
If not, I can just activate it to bulk edit the images what I want and after it I can delete it again.. then there is no problem. If I will lose all the categories I think I have to cry.
I am not sure how to find what is causing this conflict .. you tell me this is not behaviour of your plugin but it is happening when I use your plugin.
I really like the plugin but I really dislike what is happening.
Do you have another sollution or can you tell me what will happen when I delete the plugin? The only thing I can think of is the use of Twenty seventeen theme because this is causing more troubles with other plugins also.
Sorry for the long reaction and any bad english.
I hope you have a sollution or an answer. For now I have to go because its very late overhere.
Regards Jap
Ok i did find what is causing it!
It is the grid fx plugin ! When i turn that off the settings return to normal for new images!
Problem is that I really need that plugin
Can i delete the library without losing the catagories?
Or do you have other sollution? (What i hope! )
Regards Jap
Thank you for your updates with the details of your application and for making the effort to find the root cause of the image size settings issue.
I found Grid FX by wplift, and I assume that is the plugin you are using. This is a premium plugin and I hope you understand that I cannot afford to buy other plugins just to provide support for my own free plugin. I suggest you work with the vendor to see if they have a fix for you. If you can get them to send me a free copy for my own testing I can investigate further.
In the interim, you can simply deactivate MLA if you need to and reactivate it when you want to use its features. I am not sure what you mean by “delete the library” but I assume you mean “delete the Media Library Assistant plugin”; is that right?
You asked “Can i delete the library without losing the catagories?” The simple answer is “yes”, but you must understand the specific details for your own setup.
When you write “the catagories” do you mean the “Att. Categories” custom taxonomy added by MLA? Or, have you added support for the WordPress “Categories” taxonomy and assigned terms in that taxonomy to your attachments?
Deactivating or deleting Media Library Assistant does not alter any bulk edits or taxonomy term assignments you made while MLA was active. However, it does remove the code that defines the Att. Categories and Att. Tags custom taxonomies and code that registers the WordPress Categories taxonomy. If you are using Att. Categories you will have to add some code to your site to define and register it independent of MLA.
There are other plugins that register the WordPress Categories taxonomy for Media Library items, so you may not have a problem if that is true in your application. The best advice I can give you is:
- Deactivate MLA if you want to, but don’t delete it entirely unless you are completely done with it.
- Run some experiments after deactivating MLA to make sure the rest of your application works as you intend.
I am marking this topic resolved because it looks like MLA is working as intended. If you have any problems or further questions regarding the taxonomy support, post an update here and I will give you what help I can. Note that I am out of the country from 1/31/17 until 2/17/17 and there may be a significant delay in responding to future posts in the forum. Thanks for your interest in MLA.
Hello,
I want to apologize. First of all thank you very much for you detailled answers. I really appreciate it what you do. Its better as with a lot of other plugins.
Second, You can delete this whole thread on the forum. It was not your plugin so I made stupid questions. When I tested it I thought in my testsite I did not have the Grid FX plugin activated. So thats why I was thinking it could be only your plugin causing this problems.
I made a mistake and the Grid fx plugin was activated on the test site. So I narrowed it down, deactivated the media library assistant plugin and then it was making the same problems.
When deactivating the Gridfx plugin the problems where gone for new images.
So in short… your plugin is awesome. Your customer service is awesome and everything is working correctly.
Its the paid grid fx plugin what is causing this problems.
I am really sorry I took this much time from your side.
I hope you will have great days the next coming days.
Warm regards
Jap
Thank you for your kind words and for your good wishes regarding my travels. Please be assured that no apologies are necessary and there are no stupid questions. I always learn something from working on a support topic. If there is anything else I can do to help you get the most out of MLA, open up a new topic and I will address it.
