First, are you running the latest version of WordPoints?
Also, which error is being displayed when you use the rank shortcode?

This is true, WordPoints doesn’t offer that feature yet. I think it is a good idea though, and there are plans to add more notification options for users in a future release. I’ve added this to our feature requests tracker.
Sorry. It’s conflicting with User Submitted Posts plugin. Functionality is ok with that plugin deactivated, but I need to allow posts without access to the toolbar. The rank change notification is key for me, so I’ll revisit the plugin if/when this is added.

I can’t reproduce the issue of “Rank not changed after reaching points threshold”. If anybody else is having issues with the User Submitted Posts plugin, let me know.
