• So I am new here and I was loooking through the forum and found a theme I liked to use on my site. Now I saved it to my compputer and opened the folder and cant find a file called template, i believe this is a CSS template… Correct me if I am wrong…I see a style file and some other files here is the link to the theme: http://www.freewordpresstheme.info/2008/09/28/free-wordpress-theme-star-mag/

So now how do i upload that through the FTP and edit it? Do i edit the templates content through wordpress or dreamweaver? I am not familiar with this and would like to know how to do it thanks

  • You can edit the content through WordPress, Dreamweaver, or any text editor. It’s just code. Editing it through WordPress control panel requires you changing some permissions with your FTP program. Look at the docs for theming on this site and read through as many of them as possible. They basically spell out how to do everything.

The themes go in the themes directory which is /wp-content/themes. Once you put it there, on your “Design” tab in your control panel you’ll see it as one of the themes you can activate.
