When viewing RTMP streams the video is very choppy (audio is fine). We actually didn’t notice until version 6.0.5.15 when you “fixed it” to not use HLS over RTMP in flash. We have reverted back to version 6.0.5.14 which gives us smooth playback again, but only because it’s defaulting and using HLS again and not RTMP. If I force it to RTMP it’s choppy even with version 6.0.5.14. I’ve tried other players and it’s fine. Any ideas what I can check?

I haven’t tried version 6.0.5.16 as I didn’t see anything in your changelog that may make a difference. I also don’t know how ling it’s been a problem.

Thanks for the report Matt. Could you share a URL where we could see the choppy RTMP video for ourselves?

We’re doing very active work on both HLS and RTMP and priority on different devices. We’ll have this issue fixed by Monday or in the worst case Tuesday.

    Thanks, Alec

I do not. Unfortunately we only broadcast at limited times and restrict it to internal network clients. Only thing I can offer is we are using Terdek Vidiu encoders sending to a Wowza streaming server without any additional output transcoding.

    Hi Matt,

I’m sorry that makes troubleshooting more difficult. Thanks for the report though. We are working on RTMP/HLS right now as I said, so please go back to a version which works for you for now.

    Thanks. Alec

    Hello Matt,

actually you can find a code sample of how to change the RTMP buffer length using PHP: https://foliovision.com/support/fv-wordpress-flowplayer/how-to/how-to-set-bufferlength-and-buffertime/#post-50473

    Thanks.

ok I’ll try that. I will say that is the one thing we notice– it’s like it’s not buffering at all (it’s a live stream, but still). On HLS we have silky smooth video and about a 7 second delay. On RTMP it’s instant and choppy.

    Hello Matt,

in that case try Settings -> FV Player -> Integrations/Compatibility -> “RTMP bufferTime tweak”.

For more help please check our support forums at: https://foliovision.com/support
