Only three categories (I have more mother categories) are shown on frontpage of shop when I select shoppage as frontpage. Why could this be? Rest of theme layout is all 4 images/items per chapter

That is the design 🙂

If you want to change this behaviour you can use the storefront_product_categories_args filter. Take a look at the code here; https://github.com/woocommerce/storefront/blob/master/inc/storefront-template-functions.php#L534
