• Hi there,

    Running WP 4.4.2

I have a couple of menu items that are url links that I want to open in a new tab and have ticked the setting in screen options to activate ‘Link Target’

After adding the url and ticking the menu item box to open in a new tab and then saving the menu, nothing changes. The url still opens within the same tab.

I have done the following already with NO success:
-Checked for the latest version of WP (says it is up to date at 4.4.2)
-Closed my browser and reopened it.
    -Rebooted PC
-Opened page in private browser window
    -Tried FF, Chrome and IE

It seems that this functionality is simply not working for me.

I have searched these forums as well as the internet in general and have found nothing that fixes this issue. I am new to WP but have followed instructions correctly where given and am really frustrated. I don’t want to add a third party plugin because I like to utilise the core where I can.

    Please help!

    Cheers, Steve

The latest version of WP is 4.7. If you’re not receiving a prompt to upgrade then you can update your site manually:

If something is running interference with updating your site at current your host, I strongly encourage you to find a better host.

bdbrown: I saw that version in the list when I made the post and thought it might be tied to the domain host.

PWD: thanks. I suspected that as above. The site is actually one created by Sites’n’Stores originally and I am just working on it for a mate.
I will see about a setting somewhere that derestricts the WP version.

Appreciate the feedback so far, thank you. I will update the thread when I get it updated.

I found these two items in red in my Update Settings -> advanced area. I have tried a Force Update but nothing changed.:

Automatic updates are disabled. Please check your wp-config.php file for AUTOMATIC_UPDATER_DISABLED and remove the line.

Automatic updates for Core are disabled. Please check your wp-config.php file for WP_AUTO_UPDATE_CORE and remove the line.

EDIT: no such entries found in wp-config.php file
