I’m using http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/shadowbox-js/ now, which works perfectly – and requires zero special setup or tags.
i tried shadowbox but it does nothing in IE for me

Maybe you set it up wrong, because it works for my website: http://mudlet.org/screenshots/
works like a charm
just need to add: rel=”lightbox”
inside your <a href code
also add: rel=”lightbox[group]”
if you want to group a slide show
Had exactly the same problem, auto lightbox doesnt work. jperez23’s suggestion works perfectly.
On the otherhand I have this plugin installed on a different blog and auto lightbox works fine.
very strange.
It’s working but adding an a box at the top of every page with the close button and no image on every page that has a lightbox image.
On a clean install, this plugin isn’t working.

I can see that the JavaScript is load in the header, and I also manually added the rel=”lightbox” attribute, but still nothing.
It was working with my old blog…
Can’t get it to work either. What’s weird is that it was working about 2 weeks ago and I didn’t install any new plugins. It just stopped working one day. Can anybody help, here’ an article that’s suppose to use lightbox but doesn’t pop up at all:

Not sure if you folks saw the same issue, but it’s not working for me in 2.7.1. Previously was fine in 2.7.0 though.
Just to add a bit more information here, I can see why Lightbox isn’t working. It is not adding rel=”lightbox” to the link any more. Any ideas?
Actually, unless I’m mistaken the culprit in my case is the Cleaner Gallery plugin. On a page where there’s no gallery the rel=”” tag is inserted fine.
