    Hi Jeffrey

Could you let me know if I need to worry about page speed if I hide lots of rows/widgets for varying screen sizes?

    Thanks

  • Hi Elisa,

Thank you so much for choosing Widget Options! Regarding your concern, having lots of widgets/contents will surely add page size and affect page speed. You can use https://gtmetrix.com/ and http://tools.pingdom.com/ to measure the page speed when you’ve added lots of widgets. I suggest that you install caching plugin or server caching. Let me know how it goes. Thanks!

Thanks Jeffrey – I am aware lots of widgets will slow down the page in general. I also have GT Metrix, WP Total Cache and Autoptimize but thanks for the recommendations.

Just to clarify, I wondered the effect on page speed of:

    1. using Widget Options and duplicating a widget to use different styling for different screen sizes,
    versus
    2. simply writing the different CSS for different screen sizes.

How would the two options compare for page speed? Or are they basically the same.

A developer mentioned that if you use PHP for Widget Options it shouldn’t be a problem but if you use CSS it may be slower…

    Thanks
    Elisa
