Problem with Custom Page Templates

Hello, has anybody experienced trouble with custom page templates in WordPress 2.6?

I created a bunch of pages, uploaded custom template files – with the comment in the right place – but I’m not seeing the Custom Template selection field in the Control Panel. I am trying in Firefox Mac and Safari.

My theme consists of just index.php, page.php, and a couple custom template files. The comment is the first thing in the template files.

I tried creating a new page, but still didn’t see the field.

Is this an issue others have experienced? Anybody got any tips? Thanks!
