• I’ve started this site with a very specific intent: to hone my own writing skills by both constant practice and input from visitors to the site. I’ve already published a few pieces of content and will be publishing at least one content item per day.

In addition to my written work I will also begin publishing various bits of artwork, ranging from simple digital sketches to 3D modeling work to decidedly political or philosophically minded work. I’ll probably piss off a person or two in that area, LOL.

At some point I may open the site to additional posters, but for the moment I’m not looking at that option. However, comments and basic accounts are available and I’d love the feedback.

    Thanks!

    Jason

In that case you might want to provide an url πŸ™‚

    I took a chance:

I like your writing. Is the little boy you write about really your son or an imaginary father/son? Very sweet either way.

Hi there fantastic. very moving, an ideal example of what blogs shoould be about, I hope you keep writing. I’ve certainly bookmarked your site.
    All the best.
    Mike.

My apologies for not putting in the URL, I’m afraid I have my moments of sincere air-headedness. Thanks to thisisedie for finding and posting the URL!

As for the son…yes, he was very much my real son. I’m sure more of that story will appear in the days ahead.

    Thanks very much!

Ah, thank you. But just so I’m clear and don’t mislead anyone (entertaining as that has the possibility to be!), he isn’t dead. My intent was to reveal occasional nuggets in story form, but here’s the short of it: he was kidnapped by his mother 10 years ago following a 60/40 custody decision and a psychological evaluation in which she was declared too dangerous to be around children.

In any case, thanks to everyone who’s come to visit the site so far. I’m knee deep in setting up a brand new UI for it in addition to developing new content, so I appreciate any views. Commentary and criticism of any works posted would also be greatly appreciated!

    Regards,

After a good couple of weeks of struggle, Damn Short Stories now has its very own custom theme, built off the Kubrick 3 column backbone but heavily modified.

Please take a look and leave some feedback!

In addition to the new layout, the last couple of weeks have seen several new stories added, both in the fiction and bad blogging categories.

    Thanks!!

I think your site looks great. It’s clean and uncluttered, and the prose is well written and well designed.

if i knew how to code, I’d probably do my site up in a spiffy new format, but i don’t have the time to sit down and figure it out!!

Looks good, best wishes for your success with it!!

thank you very much. To be honest, I never learned CSS to any extent, but futzing with this site the last couple of weeks made a HUGE difference in my understanding of how it works. I started with the Kubrick 3 column version as a base so I wouldn’t have to start from scratch, and I stole bits and pieces here and there to help me as I prototyped. Once I got it working the way I wanted it to, I replaced all the graphics with my own designs, cried myself to sleep and called it good πŸ˜›

After some struggles with the custom theme I’ve pulled it down and put up something a little more professional looking while I work out the kinks πŸ™‚
