Category plugin question

I’ve got a blog with multiple authors. I want prevent some authors from posting in certain categories.

Plugins like “Category Visibility, will limit categories by user level, but they do so for the front end of the site, and I only want to limit categories in the admin side of things.

I realize I’m running an older version of WP, it’s the most recent version I can run on my server and that’s out of my hands. So I really need a plugin that will do this in 2.0.11

If what I’m wanting to do is easier (or possible) in more recent versions of WP, that would be good to know at least for future reference.
