Disable Featured Image

Is there any way to disable the Feature Image from the Instant Articles feed?

We use featured images for index pages (frontpage/archive/search/etc.) but not on single posts. Instead, we manually insert the same image (or a similar one) at the top of the post body.

This means that the image appears twice in Instant Articles, once in the featured image slot and again in the post body.

For a variety of reasons, it’s not expedient to change our practice regarding post bodies.
