[Composite Product] Issue with Variable item options

I’m currently attempting to create a Composite product that consists of Variable items.

-EXAMPLE-

Composite product is an outfit made up of existing variable products. (hat, pants and shirt)
Component 1 – Variable product with 3 colors
Component 2 – Variable product with 8 sizes
Component 3 – Variable product with 5 sizes

The Composite Product Plugin seems to work when using any items that are simple products, but variable products do no show attributes associated with them when selecting them in the Configurator. I have looked through documentation for the plugin but can’t seem to find out by variable attributes wont display when trying to configure a composite product.
