• I’m using WP 4.6.1 with the Twenty Sixteen theme. There’s an intermittent problem with the static front page selection in Settings. Sometimes it shows and sometimes it doesn’t. Any ideas how I can fix this? I tried a different theme and reinstalling WP but no success.

  • Sounds quite odd, do you have any plugins active at all, you could try disabling them temporarily to see if this resolves the issue, and have you tried clearing any active caches including your browser cache?

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks for the prompt reply and the advice on caches.

    I’ve noticed that when I open the site the page that displays doesn’t have a complete permalink address.

    Unfortunately, I can’t find the page to delete it!

    Do you see “view frame source” if you right-click in any blank space of those pages?

    @qatarjj,

    As suggested by @themesumo, have you attempted disabling all plugins?

    Try:
    – Flushing any caching plugins you might be running, as well as server and/or browser caches. Not just your browser, but any op cache or content network cache as well such as Cloudflare. That will solve many weird JavaScript issues.
    – If that does not resolve the issue, try deactivating ALL (yes all) plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem (plugin functions can interfere). If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s).
    – If that does not resolve the issue, or if you can’t get into your admin dashboard, try resetting the plugins folder by FTP. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems. Also remember to deactivate any plugins in the mu-plugins folder (if you have created such folder).

    I tried right-clicking but no “view frame source” was displayed.

    I have reset all the plugins in the html folder.
    I have installed “WP Super Cache – Clear all cache” plugin but no success.

    I appreciate the assistance that you’re all providing!

    Have you also tried switching to the unedited default Theme (Twenty Sixteen) for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins)?

    Some more info – when the site is launched and I click on the home page, the correct page is displayed.

    If I click on the header image the “rogue” page is displayed.

    Any suggestions?

    I’ve tried a number of themes but it makes no difference.

    The “Static Home Page” selection is normally in the menu on the Customise page and in Reading under Settings.

    Regardless of the themes the static option isn’t displayed.

    The “rogue” page displays a list of posts of one category. I’ve deleted that category and added a new one

    The rogue page has a URL of http://
    Website name/wpsafety.

    All other pages have the page’s navigation label to the URL.

    I don’t know where to locate the rogue and deleting all caches hasn’t helped either.

    Very frustrating!

    Do you see “view frame source” if you right-click in any blank space of those pages?

    I can see the code for the page using Developer in Safari. However, I know nothing about code so I don’t know what I’m looking for or how to fix it when I find it!

    Help!

    @qatarjj

    Ok, heads up, I am not very eloquent and some of the descriptions below might not be very clear – Also, a link to you website would be helpful.

    If you click on different links and pages in your website and the URL address in your browser does not change, that’s an indication of the page being loaded in a frame

    Very briefly, a frame is nothing but a “window” within a webpage that you can load other pages in while still being on the same page. There are good uses for frames, like google maps and other services like that.

    Sometimes though; a frame is loaded in the page and set up to be 100% of the device width and height (The cause may be a simple mistake or something more dangerous)

    This means if you don’t know it’s there, you won’t be able to tell.

    IF the page is being loaded inside a frame, when you right-click you should see two options in the context menu, one of them is view page source and the other is view frame source

    However, if the page is not loaded within a frame, you would only see view page source

    There is really no need for you to read about it until we establish for sure that the problem is framing.

    So, now…

    if you right-click.. do you see both view page source and view frame sourcein the menu that shows up. (you don’t need to select anything just look at the options that come up when you right click) or do you just see view page source?

    @j09

    I appreciate all the help that you’re giving me.

    My web address is http://safety-systems.co/wpsafety/

    Right clicking on the page doesn’t show anything. However, I’m using Safari Developer and Page Source shows the following code.

    I have only copied part of the code so please let me know if you need it all.

    Many thanks
