Format Phone Field

I’m attempting to format a phone field that I have created under the “Text Input” type. What I’d like this phone field to do is to automatically format the phone number of typer into a xxx-xxx-xxxx format. How can I get the field to display this way?

It is necessary because my client needs truck drivers to be able to see the phone numbers in the standard format instead of “xxxxxxxxxx” as it is now.
