• Hi, I’m a newbie. Last night I downloaded WP and acquired hosting with http://vizaweb.com/ based on a recomendation in these forums. Vizaweb has Fantastico auto-install for WP, which I just tried. I think it worked, but I’m not sure. Can someone please look at my site and see if this looks right? My temporary URL is http://69.93.199.98/~righton/index.php . It is temporary because my domain name, http://www.rightonred.net, will take 24 hours to be up and running with my server.
I’m upgrading from Blogger and have never done anything like this before. Forgive me for my ignorance, but what do I do to admin/maintain/change/post to my blog? Will I go to rightonred.net and log in (like going to Blogger.com and logging in?)
I can’t seem to log in until the rightonred.net domain name is working. Is this correct? Thanks.
    JWR

    Great. Thanks!

u do have a login id and a password. right?

And you may find that until the domain name propogates that WP wont work (possibly)

Well, I’m not sure what my login and password are, actually. This morning marked the 24 hour point for my nameserver switch, so I checked it out and it was working. However, I tried logging in and could not figure out what my username and password were; then, after a few false tries, the domain name was suddenly not working anymore (it was showing “parked” by the people I registered it with).
Now, however, about an hour later, the domain name DOES work when you put www in front of it, but not if it’s just http. Also, once you’re there via http://www.rightonred.net, none of the links work (again, they go back to the “parked” message). Is this normal? Seems like I still might have some waiting to do for the name to propogate.
I’m new to all this; I’ve never worked with a webhost or anything, thus my ignorance of this process.

I also just noticed that the various links DO work if you put “www” in front of them, but not if it’s just “http”. Is this a normal part of the propogation process, or have I done something wrong?

you can check that to see the status of the nameserver propagation.
To login, you need to have noted down the password for “admin” (usually a random string of characters)
