• Hello,

I recently installed Ultimate Member after being frustrated by BuddyPress and its difficulty of use. I had a number of custom roles on my website so when I installed Ultimate Member, I noticed a button that said “synchronize user roles.” I pressed it and it came up with an error along the lines of “Sorry, you cannot do this.” Everything seemed fine and I was messing around and pressed it again… same error, but it took longer and the page refreshed in between. Suddenly none of the WP Admin pages allowed access to my account.

In researching how to fix this, I’ve currently disabled all plugins, deleted the Ultimate-Member plugin folder, added an admin user via PHP, and tried to login. Any attempt to log into any account redirects to the homepage. Though, when trying to log into this admin account the entire website crashes for a number of hours while something processes in the background as the browser responds with “site took too long to load.”

    Thank you for any help!

  • I am assuming that you didn’t create a back up copy of the SQl database using something like phpMyAdmin before you deleted BuddyPress or installed UM?

If so, the easiest thing to do would be to ask your host to roll back your site to anytime before the event. They all have a restore function on their servers.

Otherwise, no one here can provide you support without actually accessing your WordPress installation.

Yep, that’s what I’ve just decided to do! I figured I would at least report this in the hopes that somebody had encountered it before or that the devs could fix it in the future. Honestly it seemed like such a bizarre error that all admin access suddenly broke. I’m guessing the database got corrupted in some way. Oh well!

I’m guessing the database got corrupted in some way.

That’s exactly what happens sometimes when you remove a plugin with certain DB parameters that you want to use along with another (i.e. mixing user roles from BP with UM is not a good idea).

The Syncing part may have triggered the event since you are connecting wp permissions between user roles. Who knows exactly what you did, but don’t sync unless you know what you’re doing and why you’re doing it for…
