• I would like a ‘register’ link under the Meta heading of the blog I administer. As I understand it, to get that link I go into WP Admin – Options – General and tick the checkbox “anyone can register” But that checkbox does not appear anywhere. someone else set up the blog for me, but I am an administrator (I can add widgets and so on). Can anyone help me fix this?
    Thanks,
    Chria

  • What version of WP are you currently running? The option should be found under Settings -> General. The “Anyone can register” option can be found within the “Membership” area.

Sorry to be ignorant, but how do I find out which version of WP I’m running? I don’t see it listed anywhere obvious.

I have no ‘Settings’ tab. I have an Options tab, and then a General tab but the only option there is a checkbox “Users must be registered and logged in to comment.”

hi, please post a link to your site, so we can see which version you are using, thanks.

Hi there, you are using. content=”WordPress 2.3.3″

which is why you have options, now settings in versions after 2.5
Have you tried checking the box, users must be registered and logged in and then clicked on save. if you are logged in as an admin you will also need to log out and then go back to see if a register link is present.
    hope you get there.

Thanks for the advice. I tried that and it doesn’t work. I wonder if upgrading to a more recent version would make a difference. This is frustrating because I don’t see how I can register people to use the blog.

hi, sorry it didn’t work, not that familiar with the old versions, it would certainly be worth thinking of upgrading, for the security alone. I hope it works out for you.
    mike.
