my ip is getting locked out every time I access the backend. I get a email that informs me that my ip is blocked but I can still access everything. I think this feature is not working properly. If this happens to me It can happen to any attacker right?

  • Hi, what version of the plugin and WordPress are you using? Are you using your email to log in?

Have been locked out since the last 14 hours as well.

Happened as soon as I upgraded yesterday.

Tried logging in with my email as well but still having problems.

How do I get this resolved please?

    Thanks.

That’s the error I am getting

@wordofmouthmarketing, that error message is letting you know that your IP address has been blocked. The quickest way to resolve this is by renaming the plugin folder via FTP. Then log into your website. Rename the plugin folder back to it’s original name and enable the plugin if asked too. Then remove your locked IP address under Locked IP Addresses tab.

Are you able to help please with this…

Received message from my host –

We have renamed the plugin from your FTP side. However, we are not able to access your application as well. Considering this, please ask your developer how to proceed.

    @wordofmouthmarketing, I don’t understand the problem.

My instructions above are basic and general instructions when renaming a plugin folder. Who is your host?

Do you have access to your site via FTP? Or do you have access to your site via cPanel?

    TMD has the details.

    Do you need them?

How could I send it to you.

Hi, this is something that your Host should manage. I have a policy not to log into peoples accounts for various reasons.

    Fair enough.

What do you suggest is the way out? Delete the Plugin somehow? Possible without accessing the account?

Yes you can delete the plugin. Then install the plugin again. It will ask you to enable the previous features, you can say yes to this. Then remove your locked IP address under Locked IP Addresses tab. You should be good to go.

Let me know if you need more help.

yes, I’m using email address to log in. I’m not getting locked out like the others say. I’m just getting the email that says I’m locked out and my ip is in the locked out list but I can access the site just fine

@alin09ro There is a bug in 4.2.1: when you log in with email instead of username, your IP can be added to locked IPs list despite you log in just fine. This means that if you log out and attempt to log in again before your IP is released from the list (depends on your settings), you will find yourself locked out. As long as you stay logged in, you are fine.

Unfortunately, the version 4.2.2 doesn’t fix this problem as far as I have tested. The only workaround in the moment is to not use email address to log into the backend.
