• I have wanted to use captions on the images in my posts for a while, but haven’t had the time to sit down and play with the to get them the way that I wanted.

By default, you end up with a second border around the image and the caption below the image. It’s functional, but it really doesn’t fit with the theme of my site.

This afternoon, I have had a play, and created captions which are placed on a semi transparent background on top of the images themselves.

I am working on a Mac, and don’t have access to Windows without going out to an internet cafe. So, I have tested on Safari, Firefox and Opera

I’m assuming that they will also work properly in IE7. In IE6 I am hoping that the transparent .png just won’t be transparent, and the caption text will appear on gray. I would love it if a Windows user could take a look in IE and let me know how they look.

You can find them on any single post page on my site, i.e.

Any other thoughts on the readability of captions, etc. would be appreciated.

If anyone else is interested in putting captions like this on their blog, then I’ll whip up a little tutorial.

    John
