• “Error establishing a database connection

    This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    * Are you sure that the database server is running?

    If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.”

    I’m sure many people have the same problems as me but they haven’t changed their topic to resolved so I think this is important that it needs to be controlled and someone needs to point out the error.

    Now in this case I am pretty sure that the username and password are correct:

    “<?php
    // ** MySQL settings ** //
    define(‘DB_NAME’, ‘devoker’); // Your MySQL username
    define(‘DB_PASSWORD’, ‘*******’); // …and password
    define(‘DB_HOST’, ‘localhost’); // 99% chance you won’t need to change this value
    define(‘DB_CHARSET’, ‘utf8’);
    define(‘DB_COLLATE’, ”);

    // Change each KEY to a different unique phrase. You won’t have to remember the phrases later,
    // so make them long and complicated. You can visit http://api.wordpress.org/secret-key/1.1/
    // to get keys generated for you, or just make something up. Each key should have a different phrase.
    define(‘AUTH_KEY’, ‘put your unique phrase here’); // Change this to a unique phrase.
    define(‘SECURE_AUTH_KEY’, ‘put your unique phrase here’); // Change this to a unique phrase.
    define(‘LOGGED_IN_KEY’, ‘put your unique phrase here’); // Change this to a unique phrase.

    // You can have multiple installations in one database if you give each a unique prefix
    $table_prefix = ‘wp_’; // Only numbers, letters, and underscores please!

    // Change this to localize WordPress. A corresponding MO file for the
    // chosen language must be installed to wp-content/languages.
    // For example, install de.mo to wp-content/languages and set WPLANG to ‘de’
    // to enable German language support.
    define (‘WPLANG’, ”);

    /* That’s all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */

    if ( !defined(‘ABSPATH’) )
    define(‘ABSPATH’, dirname(__FILE__) . ‘/’);
    require_once(ABSPATH . ‘wp-settings.php’);
    ?>”

    And yes, I am sure that there are no spaces.

    Everytime i try to grant privileges to my server it says that access is denied. I need to know how to get that to work.

    that error has nothing to do with spaces.

    Its exactly what it says. It either cannot connect (all of the variables have to be right), or it doesnt have permission to connect (proper permissions).

    mysql.com or perhaps your host?

    I know about mysql.com it still doesn’t work and what would be wrong with my host? Im using godaddy.

    Just a hunch, but did you manually create the database using GoDaddy’s DB control panel first?

    I’m not sure if WP setup wizard will create the database before creating the tables, but that is a common error I have experience with many applications I have installed in the past.

    Cheers 🙂

    I am also using GoDaddy and am getting this error. I did manually create the DB using GoDaddy’s admin panel before running the wordpress installation, and I get the error above. Any help?
