• I’m having problems with installing wordpress on phpMyAdmin 2.5.3. It’s an old version I know but I’m making this site for someone else so I have no choice but to stick with what I’ve got.

I have installed wordpress hundred of times on my own server, always works fine but now I just don’t get it. I have the database name, the mysql username and password (and yes, I double checked it a number of times). Still, I get the same error message.

    “Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.”

Are you supposed to have any priviledges in MyPhpAdmin? Whatever I know it’s hard for you to help me but are there any guide out there explaining how you install wordpress on phpMyAdmin 2.5.3?

EDIT: I HAVE WORDPRESS IN “~root/www/”, THE ‘WWW’ FOLDER IS ROOT IN A WAY, COULD THERE BE PROBLEMS WITH HAVING YOUR WORDPRESS FILES IN THE ROOT FOLDER?

    Thanks

  • Did you actually add the the db user to the db with all priveleges?
Makes no diff if wordpress is in root.
