Simple question

I have tried several different live chat plugins but whenever I go into add a plugin, I am told I do not have permission to install? I had even found a code to put right into the site and the way it is set up, I had no luck. This should be easy, right?
Mostly I just want to know how to activate a plugin through wordpress
