In WordPress what is like ‘blocks’ in drupal?

In drupal, the term block is used to describe a distinct region on a page. Depending on the theme there can be just a few or many blocks. They might be for example main content block, left sidebar block, header block etc.

I don’t see the same kind of feature front and center with wordpress. I am working with a theme called Minamaze (free version), and I want to see how I can arrange thing on pages. It’s pretty locked up and static without something like blocks to show or not show depending on content type or context. I wrote to the Minamaze developers a week ago but they have not responded.

I hope wp has something like blocks?
