Memory exhaustion would need to be resolved server side. Some smaller hosts run with 64MB or less of memory_allowed in the php.ini. This may work fine with minimal themes & smaller plugins, but please consider all that’s included in NextGEN! Themes & plugins that include a significant amount of options & settings often require more memory to run which is not unusual. It is very likely that if you were to increase the memory allowed in the php.ini to 256MB or at least 128MB that error would go away and the issue you were seeing would be resolved.

Except that I can run tons of other plugins without a problem, yet each time I install this one, I lose access to wpadmin with a memory allocation error in the plugin itself. Plugin out, no matter what else I install, and it’s fine. Plugin in, and it breaks. Seems, to me, that this plugin is being exploded with new features. That’s cool, but it’s also a major problem for folks who don’t need/want all those features.
A better plan would be a small/quick plugin that has options which can be installed or removed as needed, rather than a huge bloated bundle of code that has to be loaded and executed no matter which pieces you’re actually using or not.
we can’t forget that most providers don’t allow to edit the php.ini
and all users can’t afford to have a dedicated server to do this
