• Hi…I am a relatively new wordpress user. I’ve been using pMachine for a long time, and I like the similarities between wordpress and pm (wp is a much easier install, though). I’ve added to my site a group blog type thing, with multiple authors. The other day, I noticed that my background graphics had disappeared, and I am not sure what happened, or how to get them back. I checked what mundane things I could think of (like were the files actually still where they were supposed to be, etc.) but no score.
If anyone has a few minutes to look at this for me, possibly offering other suggestions, I’d be GR8full beyond words. The link is http://celaine.com/vlq/index.php
    Thanks in advance 🙂

  • Where is the missing bg supposed to be?

On either side of the main table, similar to what is here in the forum. There is a light grey background with a drop shadow on either side of the main area.

Well the index code and the CSS look OK. It might be obvious. Are the images actually there? Is the file permission on images correct? Is the url in the CSS right? It has to be that kind of stuff I would think.

I’ve eliminated permissions problems, and am certain the files are where they should be. This install was not upgraded, and was working before. I *think* the problem came about when modifying something in the template via the wp admin panel. I think it has something to do with a misplaced div tag, or some such nonesense, but I can’t figure it out.
Everything just shifted, as though the images are not being called up into the right spots. I’m puzzled.

Do you have anything above this line in your css ?
    /* =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-[Theme Name: Human Condition]-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= */
If you do, delete it, or comment it out ?

    Nope…nothing above that line.

well, I just tried using the basic index.php that comes with the install, and that didn’t do anything. There goes my theory.
I am wondering if it is at all possible that one of the authors could have made some change that I am not aware of? It just puzzles the wax right out of my ears that it should change suddenly from working properly to not with no tangible explanation. I’ve had the feeling that it would turn out to be something so simple I’d groan DUH! but I am still scratching my hair like a bemused monkey.

Hmm…. can you make a quick butt-ugly background called bg1.gif (rename the present one). That way it’ll be very easy to see, and it’ll test for a new image ?
Or make one called ugly.gif – again make it really obvious
That one to look for is just so small……

podz has a fine selection of graphics at his css tutorial. 🙂

    LOL !!!!!

that was a great suggestion 🙂 …nothing showed up, though. I don’t think the div thing is the problem. It would seem like a permissions thing, except some grpahics from the same directory are showing up?

AAAAhhhhhhhh. Now you might be on to something.

Very odd…. graphics don’t usally get affected by permissions stuff.
Tried moving the bg1.gif elsewhere ? Or even putting it in the same place as the css ?

Do you know – the more I look at it the more I think there is something very odd in the CSS to do with this bg. It is set in the body html selector . Now that is a very unusual place for it. Very unusual. And to me it does not match the index arrangements. Just my 2c.
