I wanted to confirm the correct procedure to replace an existing hosted install
-
Hi Cory,
Can you help me on this; I created via duplicator a copy of my hosted website and installed that on my localhost. I’ve now revised this and want to upload this newer version back up to my host, ie to replace the WordPress database presently hosted on there.
So far I’ve uploaded the two zip and install files to a folder I named public_html/installer, but can move them to public_html if that’s the correct one?
Firstly, from reading on here it seems that I now have to delete fully the existing WP install on my host so the duplicator install is a fresh one rather than one that installs OVER the existing one. Is this correct, or will duplicator install the new database over the old one? A fresh install seems logical since when installing on localhost that’s into an empty folder too.
Secondly, I gave the website a different name when on localhost but I assume that during the install I can rename it back to the domain name it was named as previously. There was a screen option during the localhost install to rename this so I guess that’ll happen again for me.
BTW I have only one database on my host so starting afresh shouldn’t pose any problems (other than I’m worried I’ll lose all my data!)
Apologies if these are ‘obvious’ questions, but I don’t want to get this wrong. Thank you.
Here are a few posts that made me think I’ve got to delete the existing database and will be able to rename the installed database:

P.S. Super-great plug in, so simple to install onto localhost!
