With the numerous difficulties people have been encountering with version 3, have you considered splitting the plugin up? You can release version 2 as one plugin and version 3 as another.

This way those who cannot support the new version yet can still be on the 2 branch. Then if there are any major vulnerabilities with version 2 you can still release quick security fixes.

With a major release like version 3, this might have been the better route to take from the beginning since automatic updates would not have pulled in version 3 for those like myself who were not prepared for it.

Just putting in my 2 cents. I still appreciate all the work you’ve put into this great plugin. Thanks!

    Hey dangson,

Unfortunately 2.8.9 will be the last version 2 release however any security patches will always be patched for that version and can be easily downloaded from the Developer tab on the plugin page so it will continue to be actively maintained.

Apologies, I thought I had done enough with plugin banners in the wordpress admin and notices on my site etc. to not upgrade if users are not on PHP 5.4 but I have tried to take more action by updating the Description, Changelog and FAQ sections to mention this so hopefully people won’t be caught out.

Unfortunately, there is no way in the WordPress repository to block Automatic updates if specific PHP or WordPress versions aren’t met – that would of been good on WordPress part to provide this but unfortunately it’s not possible.

I know it’s a tough change for some people but I tried to find any way around it that I could but it didn’t exist unfortunately.

There are always teething problems with new major releases and hopefully the problems will disappear over the coming weeks.

Apologies again and thanks for the appreciation of the plugin, it does mean alot!

    All the best
