Featured Images Lost From Post

    We were recently going through a cleanup and deleting a lot of unused images. We made a backup of the entire uploads folder with all these images onto an external HDD. I deleted everything in media that was unattached to any posts. However, now that all these images were deleted, all the featured images are gone from all the posts. It seems like featured images are not marked as “attached” to posts so now these are all gone.

    We ended up moving all the images back into the uploads folder from the external HDD hoping that the href’s would just pick up the link source and render the image as it did before but this didn’t work. Every post has the featured image unlinked from it and now we have posts without these images.

    Is there any way to reverse this or possibly any type of fix that can link this images back to their given post?

    Do you have a backup of the site?

    Ah good idea! We aren’t using any type of WordPress backup plugins but luckily GoDaddy has backups going as far back as 30 days so I’ll give that a try and see if that resolves this. I’ll post back with results soon. Thanks Bryan!

    Restored the site from GoDaddy’s backup and all is right with the world! Thanks again Bryan!
