• I upgraded to 2.5.1 last night. My site is http://onthewingsblog.com/

This morning, I wrote a post and soon after publishing, I wanted to add an update. Upon saving the post for the second time, I was greeted with the message:

    Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    * Are you sure that the database server is running?

If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

I submitted a support ticket to my host (site5) and after a few hours, I talked to someone from site5 via live chat. I was told that the server had reached the maximum number of SQL connections, which sometimes happens on busy days. Within a few minutes of talking to him, my site was back.

I was then able to write a new post, which I then tried to edit. Once again, I was given the Database Error message. I went back to the live chat and soon after that, my site was back.

Just a few minutes ago, I produced another post and, again, had to make a couple changes. After I hit “Save,” the same error came up. The live chat support guy at site5 tells me that this happens on busy days, but I’ve never had quite this problem before. I’ve received this error before, but never so many times in one day or for so long. The first period in which the error was showing up lasted about 5 hours.

It seems to me that the issue is connected to my attempts to edit my posts, an essential function of any blog. Does anyone have any ideas as to the reason behind this? Is it site5 or WordPress?

    Thank you.

  • I wish someone would answer this… I have the same problem after upgrading from 2.5 to 2.5.1 after it came out. So I went back to 2.5 and I have no more issues…

I waited three weeks so maybe it would be sorted out in WP and upgraded again… Immediately , I had the same issues…

I cant save posts ( I get failed to connect to database ) , The database constantly keeps getting disconnected…

Note: I did get the upgrade wordpress screen after uploading the 2.5.1 and it seemed to have work like it should.

I believe this is a bug in WP 2.5.1 ,
I guess I’ll wait till 2.5.2 or better comes out.
