I downloaded wordfence last week after getting hacked. The scans worked beautifully and I could delete malicious files they turned up with. Today I tried the same thing and the scans just stall out, the little box opens up saying “wordfence is working” but nothing ever happens. Well, I did manage to get one scan to run, but then another problem came up. It won’t let me delete the files that it says are malicious.

Are others having this same problem? Solution?

Also, I thought the whole point of having wordfence installed was that once it was, it protected you from more hacking. I had restored my website to its pre-hacked state, deleted all corrupt/malicious files, and everything looked clean as of last Friday. Now, suddenly it’s been hacked again. Is having wordfence up, all my plugins/theme/wordpress updated, not enough? How do I get this to stop happening!?

    Desperate for help! 🙂

  • Hi,

If you are unable to delete, you may have an issue with another plugin interfering with AJAX on your site. Are you having trouble saving settings in Wordfence? You may want to try deactivating all plugins except Wordfence to see if that permits Wordfence to function as expected.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of ways to attack a site. If you are on shared hosting, another site on the same server could be the cause. Definitely, make sure you have plugins and themes updated and remove any that are unnecessary. Also, change all passwords to your site if you haven’t.
