protect a thirdparty PHP webapp with wordpress

    I wish to use a PHP tool for newsletters which until now was protected by .htaccess.

    Is it possible to protect it with a WordPress login with only an access for “Author” roles?

    Structure:
    /html/wordpress/…
    /html/openletters/admin/…

    [EDIT]
    Only the index.php has to be protected.
    /html/openletters/admin/index.php
