Unfortunately I never found a solid solution. I installed a second plugin that serves the same function: https://wordpress.org/plugins/quick-pagepost-redirect-plugin/
And for some reason – together the plugins work. If i disable one of them, the target=_blank function is lost. I have to input the redirect url in both for each post.
