Facebook icon for shortcode disappears randomly

Hi,
We are having the same issue, where the Facebook icon will randomly disappear.
The solution described here seemed to work for this user, but I’m wondering, wouldn’t this change be overwritten every time you update the plugin?

If so, can you provide a solution, where we don’t have to keep on making this change after every update.
