    HI

I’ve sen it mentioned before – but I would also love an option to only optimize thumbnails – not originals.

You asked previous people why – here’s my answer.

As far as I’m concerned original images are only used to create thumbnails from. All images on the site are delivered from a resized image.

The source file should be left uncompressed in case the lossy compressions looks rubbish – or in case we want to create new thumbnails at new sizes from a lossless image.

At present you would need to backup all the images to do the above -a massive waste of server space.

    thanks,

    Hi Mr. Lebowski,
thank you for taking the time to explain this to us 🙂

Indeed you do have some good arguments there though:
    1) some sites use the original image(s)
    2) optimizing&rescaling the original images will lead to the greatest space disk saving
    3) an image can be restored from its original version at any moment (if you have “backup” activated)

Currently we’re working on a big update and I’m not sure we will be able to include the feature suggested by you but we do consider it and I believe it is safe to assume that in max 1 month it should be added to our plugin.

Thank you for your support, please let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with?

    HI

Thanks for the reply. I would argue that people delivering from the original images are building their themes incorrectly, and supporting them should not be a priority! 🙂

Anyway, thanks for the reply dude!
