    Hi,

I’ve just started using W3 Total Cache and Cloudflare on one of my websites, but it appears that Wordfence might not play nicely with one, other, or both of them.

A scan will start ok, but when it reaches the ‘Comparing Core WP Files’, ‘Open Source Themes’, ‘Comparing Plugins’, and ‘Known Malware’ block, it just perpetually hangs.

Is there a setting within Wordfence that will give it a boot up the arse?

    Hi,

Wordfence normally plays just fine with the products you mentioned. Do you get any error messages or does it just hang? Does the scan complete when you disable W3 Total Cache? Do you have Falcon Cache enabled? If so, disable it if you are also using W3 Total Cache.

    Hi,

No, there is no Wordfence caching method enabled.

Disabled W3TC – no change, scan hangs.

Disabled Autoptimize (as this plugin develops rather a large cache in itself) – no change, scan hangs.

Put Cloudflare into development mode – no change, scan hangs.

Deleted whole cache file from wp-content/cache to see if this really is a cache problem – no change, scan hangs.

Reactivated W3TC and Autoptimize but added wp-content/cache* into Wordfence files NOT to scan – no change, scan hangs.

One of the main problems here as I can see it, is the very fact that there are FOUR criteria being scanned at the same time, so there isn’t an indication of exactly where to check for possible conflicts.

Took as long as I could to write this reply in the hope that Wordfence would complete it’s scan before I finished – no change, scan still hanging.

I might have found a solution via the guys at http://byrev.space/bookmarks/web/wordfence-hang-freeze-scans-dont-finish/

…I set the max execution time to 15 seconds as per the article, and the scan completed.

Is this a proper secure solution?

Yes, that is a good solution. Glad you got it working!
