    Hi there,

multilingual press has been working fine for me until i created new pages on my website. I have a main website in English (En) and a copy of the website in Chinese (CHI). So here’s the situation:

Attempt 1: I created a new ‘child’ page on the EN site, and created a similar page on CHI site and it didn’t link up like it did previously.

Attempt 2: I tried ‘Remove Relationship’ and then ‘Change Relationship’>’Select existing post’ and I couldn’t find the CHI page to link up to. After going back and forth and trying several times, now when i click ‘Change Relationship’>’Select existing post’, I am presented with several copies of the CHI page as ‘draft’, which doesn’t link up to anywhere and an error message is shown – link not found.

Attempt 3: Then I deleted the CHI page altogether and tried using ‘Change Relationship’>’Create New Post’. Nothing happened.

So, is there anyway to link the translation pages when it doesn’t show in the list after clicking ‘Select existing post’? Or, am I doing something wrong here?

    Thank you.

  • Hi there,

what version of MultilingualPress are you using?
The newest one is v2.4.1, released two days ago.

    Hi Thorsten,

yea, I updated it and it’s still giving me the same issues. Plus, after the update even I have a new problem. The quicklink cannot stay on the left of the page like it used to. It’s only aligned to the left even if I select it to be on the right. Help 🙁

    Hi,

yes, unfortunately, there was a regression introduced in MultilingualPress 2.4.0 that leads to incorrect display for several front-end elements. This has now been fixed in the Git repository, and will be released soonish.

    As to your actual question/problem…
One thing first: every single change in the relationships settings of a post has to be saved individually – by using the according button in the Translation meta box, not the Publish button of the currently edited post. Just to have said that. 🙂

Ad Attempt 1: Maybe I misunderstand what you wrote here, but creating a child page for each of several related pages (i.e., translations of each other) does not automatically create a relation between these new child pages. You have to do this manually (always had, always will).

    Ad Attempt 2:
You can only select existing posts (or pages) that don’t have a relation to another post in the current site. So if you can’t find the post you are looking for, it might/should be the case that it already is related to another post. Please switch over to the Chinese site and check the according post’s Translation meta box for the English site.

Ad Attempt 3: What happens when you edit the English post (which does NOT have a Chinese translation) and then choose Change Relationship > Create New Post, and then hit the Save Changes button?
I just did this, and, as expected, the page reloaded and the contents of the original English post are filled in the meta box for the Chinese translation.

    Kind regards,
    Thorsten

Thanks, Thorsten. Reading your reply also made me think that I might not have installed / linked my sites together properly. It’s only going 1-way now, EN>CHI but not CHI>EN. So there isn’t a Translation meta box in my CHI site’s dashboard.

Hm, let me rework the sites again. I’ll let you know if I get around the problem 🙂

    Thanks again.

    Regards,
    Lydia
