Suggestions for a complete newb

    Hi all. I’m completely new to WordPress. The last time I built any web site was over a decade ago, so you may as well call me completely green.

    Can anyone please provide recommendations on what I would need to reach my goal site? I’m trying to create something similar to reddit. I’d like to have a series of subjects, and under each subject I’d like users to post links based on those subjects that other users can vote up or down.

    I’d also like the users to be able to engage each other. If that has to happen in a separate part of the site, that’s OK.

    I’ve searched these forums, but honestly, I found so much conflicting information I was overwhelmed. I have already installed BuddyPress in my site, but I’m not seeing the options I expected. Someone else recommended I purchase WPeddit, which I’m willing to do if necessary.

    Thanks for any advice.

    In my opinion I think what you need is a generic forum plugin with up vote and down vote functionality.

    Buddy Press is a popular plugin that comes to my mind when I think of social networking plugins.
