    Just getting started with your theme — so far, so good!

    However, just to be very certain can I clear something with you. I have downloaded the Agama Blue Child Theme. Can I edit the style.css, etc files safely without them being overwritten by an update of Agama?

    Yes you will be safe when Agama theme is updated the Agama Blue child theme is safe.
