I've got a database connection error and I've checked wp-config.php

I’m trying to fix an issue with our company site. I have a database connection error. I’ve checked the wp-config.php file, I’ve checked my mysql database through my hosting provider and I’m not sure what I’m missing. I had to do an urgent restore of the site after I updated a plugin. Any advice or pointers to solutions would be greatly appreciated.
