Yes, my dashboard looks just like that and web site seems to work fine
I was even able to type up a post, upload media, insert media, but then could not get to the publish button because it’s like there are two layers, and it was underneath.
I saw an error message –automatic update failed—
trying to update to 4.5 i could not access the button, likewise with the update retry button near the error message
James Huff also responded to my original post, his link is here
I contacted my host (Ipage) support, and got the message down below these comments–it fixed the problem. Maybe this will help others who know how to fiddle with files directly on the host server, or give them an alternate support line if they don’t
I had asked if there was a backup on my host, and was told there was not, so I purchased the 12.50/year package not thinking it would have a usable backup, with the horse out of the barn already, but maybe they automatically keep backups (whether you pay for them or not)or….i don’t know what else, but it seems to have worked retroactively
whatever, my site dashboard is back up
Hello Bob,
I have restored the wp-admin folder from the backup and now the WordPress dashboard at: http://www.permaculturebob.com/wp-admin/ is displaying fine. You can upgrade the WordPress application now. Please check once again and if there any issues, let us know.
update–The dashboard displays correctly at times, I was able to edit comments, but not publish new posts- as soon as i try it reverts to that convoluted double layer with many controls inaccessible.
also, as soon as I tried to look at a draft post it reverts back and i’m unable to publish because that control is displayed under the others
I was able to click the 4.5 update, but then it reverted and controls became messed up.
I have to do other things now, but would like to know what works for everybody else, I may have to try and muddle through the advice James gave about using fresh files from a new download, didn’t sound that complicated.
I’m guessing the backup was corrupted so whatever allows me to get the appearance of a useful dashboard is still not supported by good code.
this is the thread to look at, James gives good directions, my site finally seems ok
caution, only replace/remove from your server root directory the files in the wp4.5 download (dont remove/replace the content folder or the config.php file)
I removed everything first try (hence the value of saving everything in a backup file) and got a 403 error, restored everything back then just replaced the files in wp4.5 and was successful.
Please keep track and don’t do anything that can’t be undone, just in case)
