This sounds like a JavaScript issue. Can you therefore please try again after temporarily deactivating all other plugins and after switchting to a WordPress default theme like Twenty Sixteen? That way, we can find what’s causing this.

yes, holding “Shift” is sometimes an option, as this can eliminate issues with AJAX calls.
