Noob question. Hide Admin Login Area?
-
Alright, this is going to sound kinda stupid. I’ve had a self hosted wordpress site for a couple of years, but I’m just starting to educate myself about best practices for security and other maintenance things.
There is an option to hide the login area, which sounds like a great idea because I have tons of nasties trying to login to my site. Fortunately I have a few layers of protection for logging in that keeps them out as much as possible, but I still do not want the login page visible to the public.
So, what happens if I click that button?
If the login area isn’t visible, how do I gain access? Will it be visible to my IP and devices? Do I get a special url to login?
Is there something that needs to be done on the back end for me to login if the login area isn’t visible?
My husband takes care of all the behind the scenes stuff since he’s tech professional. WordPress isn’t his thing, but he helps where he can. I’m taking lynda.com courses to learn as much as possible to protect and expand.
Like I said, noob… don’t judge, you’ve been there too 🙂 Take care, and thanks in advance!!
While I’m here, are there any other ithemes security configurations that work well for you or that you can suggest to maximize security as much as possible? I’ve selected and configured most of the default suggestions. I would also possibly like to go pro, any discount codes that you know of?
