• The phone number on my website changed. It was correct on the widget page in editor, but incorrect on the site. How is this possible?

Here is the stranger part …when I call the wrong number I get a message saying the call will be recorded and then my phone rings !!!

    Was I hacked ?

I changed my pass word just in case.

    More specifics ….

When I hit refresh the correct number would momentarily flash and then the wrong number would reappear. The number is on every page in the header and on the contact page in the text. It was changed (wrong) in both places.

(XXX) XXX-XXXX is how the number was originally displayed.

Changing to XXX/XXX-XXXX did not remedy the situation.

Changing to XXX / XXX – XXXX fixed it.

When I used our VOIP line with the wrong number our LAN line would ring. But, when I called the wrong number from a LAN line our phone would not ring.

    Totally bizarre !

I’ve fixed it, but I’d love to know what the heck happened. If it was a hack, it was elaborate.

    Thanks for listening.

    Dean.

Without knowing any more details than you’ve said above, and without access to your server and its logs (hint: don’t give out access to that on here!!!), it’s impossible for anyone to say how anything like this happened.

At a guess… It’s JavaScript that’s doing it as you see the correct phone number first, and then it changes very quickly. As to how that JavaScript got there, it’s anyones guess. Have you recently signed up for any sort of sales or lead tracking service? They sometimes include a system to change the phone number to one of their own so that they can track sales calles from that number as analytics data.

    Thank you.

    That’s quite possible.

We just signed up for an email campaign with ConstantContact.

    I bet that’s the culprit.

    Thanks again !

    Dean.
