Receiving multiple notifications for new comments

    I am using a Twenty Fourteen child theme, and my blog is here.

    This is a weird issue, because it doesn’t happen every time, but often when a reader comments on a post I receive as many as 12 notifications in my specified email account. This first happened some years ago, and I have since changed themes, but it is still happening.

    In my ‘Discussion’ settings, I have ticked “Email me whenever: 1. anyone posts a comment and 2. a comment is held for moderation.

    Also, in ‘General Settings’, I have only one email account specified to receive new comment notifications (this is the one that the multiple notifications are being sent to), but I am also receiving notifications of new comments in another email address I used to use, but changed – it is no longer mentioned in my settings!

    Does anyone have any idea what could be causing these strange notification issues? If so, would much appreciate your thoughts.

    Well, knocked over by the response!

    For the benefit of anyone experiencing the same issue, my excellent web host Support team have identified the problem. It was a setting on the Options page of the ‘Subscribe To Comments Reloaded’ plugin.

    I had the ‘BCC admin on Notifications’ enabled, which meant I was BCCd for every notification sent to a subscriber’s email address. There were many addresses subscribed to the post in question, so the plugin was adding my email address in BCC for every message sent to a subscriber’s address.

    I don’t recall selecting that BCC option, but must have done at some stage (can’t imagine it was selected by default). So, all sorted at last – I’d been receiving these multiple notifications for years, and had never managed to get to the bottom of. Neither had anyone else who checked into it. Just goes to show, sometimes the obvious possibilities are overlooked.
