• Hi all,

I built a web site for a client using WordPress. Just recently the site was hacked and spam sent from her email account. The host has suspended the site because of this. Can you tell me whether this is a flaw in WordPress or whether it is the hosts security that is at fault? The site is on auto update for WordPress so has the latest version at all times.

    best wishes
    Tracy

It’s hard to say where the flaw is, but there are currently no published security vulnerabilities in the current version of WordPress. The source of the hack could be poor account security (passwords, etc), poor server security, malware already existing on the server, or malware uploaded to the server (like a compromised plugin or theme).

Remain calm and carefully follow this guide. When you’re done, you may want to implement some (if not all) of the recommended security measures.
