Multiple Authors on a Post

I work in an organization with a few thousand WP sites. A client has requested that we install the Co-Authors-Plus plugin. However, I noticed that the plugin has not been updated in over 2 years. Because of that, I’m concerned about future compatibility and security issues.

I’ve searched around (both plugins, google, and the WP support forums) for this topic, but the posts are very old (8 years or so); there doesn’t seem to be much discussion or information about multiple-authors on a single post. Most of them just refer back to the aforementioned plugin.

Is there something I’m missing? Does anyone have a way to do this? Thank you!
