What the hell? In this documentation http://codex.wordpress.org/User_Levels it talks about how to set user levels but I don’t have any of the menu options and buttons they are talking about.

All I have is a Users section where I can edit the user’s profile and other details. I can also only choose from subscriber, editor, author, contributor and administrator when creating a new user.

I want to make a user with level one for example, how can I??

What part of “Note: The User Levels described in this article are replaced in WordPress 2.0 by Roles and Capabilities.” is unclear?

I’ve just hit myself in the head, can’t believe I missed that!

Thanks for pointing it out – So the contributor can edit posts created by him/ her but is there any change I could make so a contributor can also write pages, not just posts?

I see that only the editor can but I don’t want my user to be able to edit others’ posts, just his own and his own pages. Is there some kind of addon or something?

    Try this plugin:
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/role-manager

It will let you edit the capabilities each Role has. You can create new Roles as well.
